One parent in five feels burnout

Women more affected More than one-fifth of parents in Belgium report that they often (19 %) or permanently (3 %) feel exhausted, according to the second parent barometer conducted by the League of Families with Le Soir and RTBF.

Only 12% of parents responded they have never felt the need to escape their responsibilities. The majority of parents (40 %) feel occasionally exhausted. The phenomenon of burnout, a form of psychological stress, affects particularly women.

"The role of parents remains gender-related, despite the progress in society," said Isabelle Roskam, psychologist and professor at the faculty of psychology at the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL).
