Belgian police announces strike during safety campaign

“Traffic safety is about the whole year” The police union SNPS has told interior minister Jan Jambon (N-VA) that it intends to activate a strike notice covering the period from 15 December to 15 January, report Sudpresse and L'Avenir on Tuesday (13 December). The traffic police responded to the minister’s refusal to grant them additional means to carry out their missions.

The so-called Bob campaign, for which some 250,000 controls are planned, is likely to be affected negatively by the strike. "Road safety is about the whole year and not just when people have to blow into the balloon. We need to be consistent and give ourselves the means to ensure that safety," explains Jérôme Aoust, SNPS.

The union SLFP Police has also indicated that it may participate in the strike.
