Porte de Hal tunnel closes for renovation works
Essential maintenance is being carried out on the Porte de Hal tunnel, in particular making it watertight.

The Porte de Hal tunnel in Brussels will, once again, be closed to traffic from today (Friday) through to June 28th later this year. This is the third of six phases relating to tunnel renovation. All works are scheduled to end in 2019.

In particular, works will be carried out to make the tunnel watertight.

This necessitates complete closure to be able to do the work as a single project.

Road diversions are anticipated for car drivers.

The organisation Bruxelles Mobilité (the remit for which is transport issues) nevertheless advises drivers to avoid travel through the area by car.

It suggests that alternatively they opt to use public transport and bikes. It is possible to get to the Porte de Hal area using metro lines 2 and 6, as well as train lines 3 and 4.

Phase 3 of the works anticipates complete closure of the tunnel from today (May 19th) to June 28th, during the day and night.

The tunnel will be partially accessible during the day throughout the summer.
