The Prime Minister’s partner, Amélie Derbaudrenghien, will accompany the American President’s wife, Melania Trump, during the presidential couple’s stay in Brussels for the NATO “Summit”. This was indicated by the Minister for the Interior, Jan Jambon, yesterday (Sunday), on the political TV programme De Zevende Dag, broadcast on VRT.
Initially it had been thought that the Secretary of State for Poverty Reduction, Equal Opportunities, People with Disabilities, Urban Policy and Scientific Policy, Zuhal Demir, would take this role.
She had spoken enthusiastically about this on social media.
Mr Jambon stressed, “In the preparation for such a visit, some things are liable to be subject to change sometimes.”
He stated that the choice of “our country's First Lady”, the Prime Minister’s partner, was finally settled upon.
Moreover, Ms Demir will be busy during the period of the visit. As her ministerial role includes representing the interests of people with disabilities, she is now attending the Special Olympics.
This is the national “Olympic Games” for those with disabilities. The games start on May 24th in Lommel.
