The Prime Minister, Charles Michel, and the Justice Minister, Koen Geens, wish to develop an English-speaking court. L'Echo is reporting on Tuesday that it will be known as the Brussels International Business Court.
Brussels may acquire the new one-tier court in the months to come. The daily newspaper mentions the draft legislation, which is currently travelling between departments.
Within this new court, English would be the language used both to argue cases and draft decisions. These would not be likely to be appealed, offering the advantage of an accelerated court procedure.
L'Echo indicates that the initiative aims to attract potential conflicts arising from Brexit, as well as major commercial conflicts between businesses with international scope.
