Hundreds of Belgians with Kurdish origin and supporters for an independent Kurdistan are gathering up in front of the EU institutions on Schuman roundabout to demonstrate for Kurdish independence. Waving Kurdish flags, the demonstrators are asking for support from the EU institutions.
A referendum took place 25 September for independence in the Iraqi controlled Kurdistan region with approximately 93 percent of votes cast in favour of independence.
Following the referendum, the EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini issued a statement in support of Iraq’s territorial integrity.
