Nearly 700 artisans will once again open the doors of their workshops free of charge to the public at the 11th edition of Sunday’s Artisan Day. The event, organized since 2006, aims at highlighting the know-how and talent of active artisans in Belgium through various activities.

The general public will be able to discover – alongside traditional crafts in pottery, woodworking, stone, iron, and ceramics – new crafts such as manufacturing custom-made glasses by 3D printing.

This edition will however be the last open to all craftsmen, says Denis Ducarme, Minister for Self-Employed, SMEs, Agriculture, and Social Integration. From 2018, quality recognition of the artisanship will be required. More than 860 artisans have been recognized to date, the minister said.

Last year’s edition of Artisan Day attracted some 45,000 people last year.
