Attacks in Brussels — Victims receive a letter granting them a status

The victims of the 22 March 2016 attacks in Brussels have just received from the administration a letter formalizing their status as victims of a terrorist act — a status entitling them to national solidarity —, RTL-TVi reports Monday in its midday edition. The letter makes no mention of a compensation amount.

According to criminal lawyer Franck Discepoli, speaking in the newscast, this status assimilates a terrorist attack victim with a war victim. “In consequence, he/she is entitled to a compensatory pension, and to the reimbursement of all incurred expenses.

The level of these expenses and pension is yet to be determined by royal decree, which will decide on the amount.” According to the legal expert, there is no precise delay to a royal decree, RTL-TVi specifies.
