New application for paying parking fees in the Brussels Region

New application for paying parking fees in the Brussels Region

The Brussels parking agency announced on Wednesday a new regional parking platform called BIPaSS (Brussels Initiative for Parking Solutions). As of Spring next year each driver will be able to pay for parking in all Brussels municipalities using a smartphone application.

The Brussels-Capital Region has 19 municipalities which all have their own parking regulations and all of which offer very different methods of payment. Since 2014, however, the regional parking agency (parking.brussels) has been working on harmonization and simplification of the system.

The municipalities of Anderlecht and Molenbeek are already offering the new platform. From next year, the other Brussels municipalities will join the project.

According to the parking agency, the new system has many advantages. The driver does not need to carry cash and does not have to estimate in advance the duration of parking time. Parking time is activated by the smartphone application and disabled on departure.

An invoice showing all parking sessions can be sent each month.

Another advantage of the new system is that drivers do not need to search for a parking meter. The application will tell them, via a GPS function, in which type of area they are parked and what rules are in force there, as well as the parking fees charged in the area.
