New from 1/1/2018: Brussels bans non-biodegradable garbage bags

The sale of non-biodegradable green bags used for garden waste will be banned in Brussels Region from the 1st of January 2018, according to Bruxelles-Propreté. They will be replaced by biodegradable and compostable green bags, which will be sold by the waste-management utility’s regional recycle parks before becoming available in stores.

The new bags will have the same 60-litre capacity as the current plastic green bags. They will be sold at 3 euros for a roll of 15 and will be in two models - with or without zippers.

Bruxelles-Propreté will continue to collect non-biodegradable green bags as usual, but is calling on Brussels residents to buy the biodegradable ones as soon as possible.
