Motorway car park security surveillance implemented
The security will be provided “as long as is necessary” each night on five motorway car parks in Belgium.

The Minister for the Interior, Jan Jambon, confirmed that on Tuesday evening surveillance of motorway car parks by private security agents began. These details support information released by VRT.

The security company was selected on the basis of an invitation to tender. The security will be provided “as long as is necessary”, every night, on five motorway car parks throughout the country. The car parks have been chosen by the federal police, after conducting a risk analysis of all such car parks. In the event of any problems, the security guards should alert the police, who will then be able to intervene.

Minister Jambon had announced his intention to permit such private surveillance after incidents which occurred recently, involving migrants on the car parks on the E40 motorway in Groot-Bijgaarden and Jabbeke. The surveillance at the relevant car parks is assured every day from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning.
