Homeless in Brussels - Philippe Close mobilizes his police to force the homeless to accept accommodation

During this period of severe cold, the City of Brussels Mayor, Philippe Close, has decided to mobilize his police to force the homeless to accept accommodation, indicated Monday his spokesperson Wafaa Hammich. Special attention will be given, with the collaboration of the juvenile court, to young children who are sleeping in the streets. All of the City’s social workers are asked to contact the police as soon as they spot a child in the streets.

The mayor calls for solidarity from other municipalities, so that this measure of prevention might be efficient. The City of Brussels disposes of four accommodation shelters on its territory. Mr. Close’s decision comes after the police ordonnance taken in Etterbeek Sunday evening by Mayor Vincent De Wolf, who imposed administrative arrest of the homeless who refuse to get into a winter lodging.
