Decrease in terrorism related offenses in Belgium

For the first time in six years, the figures for terrorism related offenses have decreased in Belgium. The latest police statistics clearly indicate a sharp decline, writes De Tijd on Saturday. The third quarter of last year saw 106 reports relating to terrorism, radicalism or extremism, whereas 227 reports were filed for the same period last year.

The same trend was observed for the first nine months in 2017: 374 reports compared to 621 in 2016.

This is the first time in six years that these numbers are decreasing. The reports related to terrorism increased from 146 in 2011 to 212 in 2012, 218 in 2013, 402 in 2014, 602 in 2015 and 777 in 2016.
