Fire breaks out in Eddy Merckx substation in Anderlecht: electrical system affected

A fire broke out on Monday evening around 9.00 p.m. at the Eddy Merckx metro substation in Anderlecht, where the electrical sources for several Brussels metro stations are located.

While the fire was successfully extinguished, and nobody injured, the electrical network was affected by the fire. This required STIB technical teams to work upon repairing and restarting the system once the fire was out. The metro service remained interrupted between the Eddy Merckx and Saint-Guidon stations at that time.

The incident was announced by An Van hamme, spokeswoman for STIB (Brussels Public Transport Service) at around 11.30 p.m, Monday.

It was thought unlikely that the services would have restarted by the time the metro service ended early Tuesday morning.
