Molenbeek announces police presence around mosques

Following the terrorist attack on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, the Brussels-West police has taken special protective measures for mosques located in the municipality. On Monday, after a meeting with the leaders of the Muslim faith and the local police at the town hall of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, it was decided to create a specific e-mail to contact the police in order to enable easier communication with them.

The Brussels-West police zone already organised security measures at mosques on Friday, after instruction by the Mayor of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean Catherine Moureaux (PS). This meant that a police presence will be maintained around the mosques and in front of the recognised Muslim school.

"The horror experienced on the other side of the world is also felt here in Molenbeek," said Moureaux.
