Greta Thunberg mural appears in Brussels

Greta Thunberg mural appears in Brussels

A new mural in Brussels has placed the face of Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg on the side of a building. The mural appeared on a facade in Cité du Sureau, in the centre of Brussels, according to local media on Tuesday.

This depiction of the vocal activist is the work of the artist Encq - or Henk De Ruddere - and was created at the request of the owner of the house. The City of Brussels has voiced support for the project, according to reports.

Greta Thunberg is depicted in the mural with her characteristic two long braids. For the artist, the choice of illustration was obvious. "It symbolises the steps for the climate. When I see these young people passing by, I am proud, even if I am also ashamed," he said.

"When I was her age, my only concern was to be in love or to recover from heartbreak. I wasn't worried about such things," he added.

The owner of the house and Encq hope to give additional visibility and recognition to the young climate activists with the mural.
