Brussels firefighters were called Monday at 9:46 AM to a fire at Le Centre Hospitalier Jean Titeca, rue de Luzerne in Schaerbeek, fire spokesman Walter Derieuw told Belga. "We were called on Monday at 9:46 AM for a fire at the Titeca psychiatric hospital in Schaerbeek, where there was a lot of smoke in a room on the ground floor," said Derieuw. "When we got there all the patients had have been evacuated into a courtyard of the building, no one had been intoxicated by smoke," he added.

The fire was quickly brought under control, but the ventilation of all the rooms took a long time because the windows can only open with special measures. The firefighters left at around 11:00, he said.

Firefighters discovered that the fire began in the mattress of the room where the smoke was coming from.
