Twenty-one people have been arrested in Etterbeek after an altercation erupted near the municipality’s place Saint-Antoine late Wednesday afternoon.
“I confirm the administrative arrest, late afternoon, of 21 persons — 20 of whom are minors — following disturbances to the public order,” Eterbeek mayor Vincent De Wolf said on Twitter, adding that the arrested were mostly Etterbeek outsiders.
The fighting ensued after individuals from another Brussels commune came to Etterbeek seeking out other youths. The situation quickly escalated, according to local media reports. Local police sources told BX1 that no one had sustained any injuries.
Several wailing police cars were reportedly seen in the area at around 16:30, and De Wolf noted that the authorities had “rapidly and efficiently” restored order.
