Demonstrations on Sunday expected to disrupt Brussels traffic

Three separate demonstrations will take over a number of avenues in and around the Belgian capital, prompting mobility authorities to invite drivers to opt for "alternative" transport methods.

The Avenue de Tervueren's 122nd anniversary will be celebrated with several activities that will close-down the avenue to vehicle traffic, from the early hours of Sunday until around 21:00. The areas affected will be those comprised between the Parc du Cinquantenaire and the Boulevard de la Woluwe.

The Cinquantanaire and Tervuren tunnels will also be closed for the occasion, with the latter remaining open in the direction of E40-motorway.

In the Woluwe-Saint Lambert residential suburb, also to the east of the city centre, runners in a 15km race around the commune will take over many of the vehicle lanes, from around 10:00 in the morning until 13:00.

At that time, a demonstration by Flemish group Hart Boven Hard will leave from the Gare du Nord and move down to the Rue de la Loi, in the heart of the city's European district, to attain the Parc du Cinquantanaire.

The Reyes-Centre vehicle tunnel will be closed off from 14:00 and traffic disruptions are throughout their march, which will take place from 13:00 to around 15:30.

In all, drivers in Brussels can expect difficult circulation and are encouraged to favour public transportation, bikes and other alternatives to their vehicles.
