Brussels police reveal pictograms used by burglars

A police unit from the Brussels Capital Region shared pictograms commonly used by burglars to communicate with each other, in order to spread awareness amongst residents. The Montgomery zone police, which is competent for the municipalities of Etterbeek, Woluwe-Saint-Lambert and Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, published the pictograms and their meanings on Facebook, encouraging residents in those areas to contact authorities if they spotted one.

The image contains around a dozen abstract signs with meanings going from “woman living alone” and “there is money here” to “residents call the police here” and “break-in on Sunday mornings.”

The police said new symbols pop up frequently, and that they were usually drawn on the wall of a house, on sidewalks or on door jambs.
