Two people in hospital after Etterbeek fire

Two people have been admitted to the hospital from smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in an Etterbeek apartment building late Monday afternoon. A building in Avenue des Celtes, in the vicinity of the Parc du Cinquantenaire, caught fire at around 18:00, a spokesperson for Brussels Walter Derieuw fire department confirmed.

The building’s occupants had already evacuated the premises when the firefighters arrived.

The fire which, originated in the kitchen of a restaurant at the building’s ground level, was successfully put out at around 19:00, and some of the residents were able to return to their homes.
