A construction worker is dead and another has been sent to the hospital with serious injuries after an accident in a construction site took place in the Brussels municipality of Molenbeek on Tuesday afternoon. Emergency services were contacted at around 14:15 to the construction site in the Chaussée de Gand, after part of the ceiling or a heavy concrete block from a building collapsed onto both victims.
The accident took place in a hammam, a typical steam Turkish bath, that was undergoing construction works.
Emergency response teams and police units are reportedly still on site, waiting for a sniffer dog to make sure no other victims are trapped under the fallen debris.
The injured victim’s life is not in immediate danger, and it has not yet been made clear whether the collapse of the structure was total or partial.
Brussels prosecutors are expected to arrive to investigate the accident along with labour regulation inspectors.
