Manneken Pis celebrates 40 years of Brussels 20 km

To mark the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Brussels' 20km race, the Manneken Pis has donned his finest sports gear on Wednesday. The most famous statue in Brussels has put on a yellow and blue tracksuit to celebrate the sports competition that has thrilled the capital for the past 40 years.

The first race was held in Brussels on the 8th of June 1980, and was attended by 4659 runners. From there it only grew in popularity, with 40,000 runners gathered for the race in 2018, representing 129 nationalities.

After this Wednesday, this runner's costume will be added to the collections of the "GardeRobe MannekenPis" Museum, which houses his most famous outfits from across the years.
