Man attacked by police in Molenbeek

A video showing a man being beaten up by police officers is currently circulating on social networks in Belgium, according to local media. In the violent video, a man is seen being held down by a policeman, while a second gets out of a car and kicks him in the head several times. He then hits him with his fists. Two other police officers are also seen in the video.

The scene was filmed by a man who wishes to remain anonymous. According to BX1, the events occurred on rue du presbytère in Molenbeek on the night of May 20-21 around 4:00 AM.

"Our zone chief has asked for an investigation to be initiated," said Ilse Van de Keere, the spokeswoman for the Brussels-Ixelles police zone to RTBF. "But the vehicle from which the policeman who hits the man on the ground comes out is not a vehicle from the Brussels-Capital-Ixelles area," she added.

On the side of the Brussels West police zone (Molenbeek, Jette, Ganshoren, Koekelberg, Berchem-Sainte-Agathe), spokeswoman Caroline Vervaet told RTBF. "The chief of the corps demands an investigation. The facts have occurred on the territory of our area and we have the right to launch an investigation," she added.
