A 39-year-old man who sexually assaulted a minor at Brussels’ Foire du Midi will remain in detention after a judge issued an arrest warrant against him, the public prosecutor’s office said Tuesday.
A judicial inquiry was launched after police on Sunday detained the Bulgarian national at the popular street fair for groping a 15-year-old girl.
Police were able to detain the man at the fair after the girl told her relatives that he had grabbed her by the chest and buttocks and tried to kiss her by force beside one of the attractions.
Put under 24-hour administrative detention by the police after the events, the man’s detention was upheld after an examining magistrate issued an arrest warrant against him, according to BX1.
The minor’s relatives were later able to locate the man next to a shooting range, and the girl’s mother confronted him, drawing the attention of other attendants, who helped retain the man until authorities arrived at the scene.
