Shots were heard on Wednesday evening in the Brussels commune of Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, in the north of the Belgian capital.
One person was shot in the leg, said a spokesperson for the Brussels North police, confirming a report by RTL Info.
The police were called at around 21:00 and came to the scene on Rue de la Prairie. They immediately attended to the victim, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.
The victim was then taken to hospital by the emergency services and is still there, according to the police.
Initial investigations have been launched by the Public Prosecutor's Office. The investigation is ongoing.
