The tense situation at the world’s largest iPhone factory, in Zhengzhou, central China, could lead to a six-million-unit iPhone production shortfall this year, financial news agency Bloomberg reported, based on sources close to the issue.
This number is only an estimate. It could still vary and will depend on the ability of Apple’s Taiwanese subcontractor, Foxconn, to get the workers back to work.
Violent protests by hundreds of workers broke out recently at the Foxconn factory site, which employs more than 200,000 people and is nicknamed ‘iPhone city.’ Workers protested against a lockdown imposed last week, and which affects the site, but also against unpaid wages.
