The Brussels government has approved 24 projects for funding under the 2021-2027 European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) programme.

Nine of the projects involve the development of new public digital tools, while four will enhance research and innovation capabilities, the office of Prime Minister Rudi Vervoort said in a press release. The other 11 projects are intended to improve the energy performance of social and affordable housing.

“RRDF programming is an opportunity both for the Brussels region and for the project leaders,” said the Prime Minister. The selected projects will hugely benefit residents by improving the energy performance of their homes and through advancements in oncological research.

In terms of digital investment, Brussels Free University’s ‘BrusselAir’ project for artificial intelligence and robotics will receive €8 million from the ERDF and regional funds.

In the area of research and innovation, the ONCO.CARE project, led by ULB/VUB and a number of partners, will receive the most substantial amount: €4.8 million.

With regard to social housing, the largest amounts will be allocated to Brussels Housing for the Versailles Phase IV (€6.9 million) and Versailles Phase 1 (€5.3 million) projects in Neder-Over-Heembeek.

The beneficiaries of another five ERDF projects are expected to be selected by early June.
