A Belgian court ordered another month's detention pending a full trial on kidnapping charges for a suspect arrested for attempting to abduct a 12-year-old girl on a Brussels tram, the Crown Prosecutor's office said.
The ruling followed the formal charging of the alleged abductor and sets up a criminal case.
The male suspect is said to be known to police and was detained on Saturday after passengers held back a 12-year-old girl in apparent distress last Tuesday at the key city intersection of Lemonnier, near the Gare du Midi international rail hub.

Prosecutors refused to say whether the man had any prior relation to the girl but confirmed the action followed the filing of a judicial complaint in the run-up to the arrest, Belga News Agency reported.
