Thirty thousand companies have already resorted to temporary unemployment measures, L'Echo stated on Tuesday, basing its story on information received from the Federal Minister of Employment, Nathalie Muylle (CD&V).

At the end of last week, there was mention of 1,700 companies bringing in the unemployment requirement for 31,000 workers. Today, Muylle mentions 30,000 companies introducing such temporary unemployment requirements concerning 200,000 to 300,000 employees. The companies can resort to this in order to address a temporary decline in their production.

"This measure will avoid mass layoffs and even insolvencies. Furthermore, it will allow employees to return to work rapidly as soon as the economy recovers," the employment minister explained.
