German automaker Opel, a subsidiary of the Amsterdam-based Stellantis group, plans to reduce the number of its employees in three factories by 1,000.
The car manufacturer announced on Thursday that it has launched a programme offering staff the option of early and partial retirement or severance payments.
The programme covers Opel's Rüsselsheim, Eisenach and Kaiserslautern factories. The remaining staff received a guarantee that there will be no new rounds of layoffs until at least mid-2027.
