Scottish footballer Dapo Mebude (22), who plays for Ostend, is fighting for his life following a traffic accident on Sunday morning in Loppem, according to the Bruges section of the West Flanders Prosecutor's Office.
The incident occurred around 09:00 on Sunday morning as Mebude was travelling on the E40 motorway towards Brussels. The young professional lost control of his car while attempting to take the exit towards Loppem and collided with a tree.
Emergency services swiftly arrived at the scene to rescue the critically injured player. He was then transferred to a hospital.
A traffic expert was dispatched to the accident location to investigate the precise circumstances. No other vehicle was involved in the accident.
Mebude, a graduate of the Rangers academy, has represented Scotland at various youth levels. Since 2022, the forward has been playing for Ostend. The club cancelled its training match against Knokke in light of the tragic incident.
"Our thoughts are with Dapo and his family," stated the coastal club.
