Five people, including a taxi driver and four factory employees, were killed on Wednesday in an attack on the headquarters of the Tusas defence company near the Turkish capital, Ankara, according to Turkey’s Vice President, Cevdet Yilmaz.
The attack also left 22 people injured, including seven members of the special services, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on Wednesday evening.
Turkish media reported that the attackers arrived at the Tusas headquarters gate in a taxi. A photo shows the taxi being towed away.
Ministers Yerlikaya and Yasar Guler (Defence) have identified the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) as the likely perpetrators. Two suspects, a man and a woman, were “neutralised” during the attack, they said. It remains unclear if other assailants were involved.
The attack has drawn condemnation from Brussels and Washington. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed support for NATO ally Turkey, while EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell conveyed European solidarity with Turkey.
