An armed man was shot and killed during a confrontation with police in London on Saturday.
The London Metropolitan Police, which announced the incident, said it was not being treated as terrorism-related, the Belga News Agency reported.
Police said they were alerted at about 3:00 PM that a man carrying a firearm had been seen entering a bank and betting offices on Marloes Road in London’s Kensington area, before getting into a car and driving off.
Armed police officers stopped the vehicle at the Kensington Road/Palace Gate junction, not far from Kensington Palace, where Prince William lives with his family, police said.
Shots were fired, and the man was wounded. Emergency services treated him on the spot, but he was declared dead just after 4:00 PM, according to the police.
The incident was reported to the Metropolitan Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards, which has turned it over to the police internal investigation department.
The dead man’s identity was yet to be established, police said on Saturday evening.
