New Year’s Eve in Germany was marred by the death of two men following fireworks accidents, with several other people injured, German police announced on Saturday night.
The victims are a young man in his twenties and a 37-year-old man, according to Belga News Agency.
The first person was killed by a firecracker explosion in the eastern German state of Thuringia, and the second died following an accident in the North Rhine-Westphalian town of Hennef. Another man, aged 39, was also seriously injured in the accident. He was taken to hospital and is currently in a critical condition.
In Berlin, 12 people, including children, were also injured by fireworks during a private New Year’s party. 11 of them were taken to hospital. The youngest victim is 11 years old, the oldest is 51.
