The Tour of Austria stage cycling race has been cancelled for the third year running, Belga News Agency reports.

The Category 1.2 race was to have been held from 2 to 6 July but has again been called off due to the uncertainty surrounding the event.

Belgium’s Ben Hermans won at its last two editions, in 2018 and 2019.

This year’s 72nd edition has been called off because two of the five stages were cancelled in the province of Carinthia due to a lack of hotel capacity.

Carinthia’s tourism and hospitality sector has had a difficult two years and organisers were unable to find an alternative in time, the Austrian Cycling Federation said on Friday.

The 2020 and 2021 editions of the race were cancelled because of the health crisis sparked by the Coronavirus pandemic.
