King Charles III is to be crowned at a ceremony scheduled for 3 June 2023, almost exactly 70 years after the coronation of his mother, Elizabeth II, according to sources quoted by Bloomberg news agency. Buckingham Palace did not wish to react to the announcement.

Elizabeth II, who died on 8 September, was crowned on 2 June 1953, over a year after the death of her father, King George VI, in February 1952.

Next year's coronation ceremony will take place at Westminster Abbey and is expected to be shorter and more modest than that of Elizabeth II. Representatives of other beliefs, religious or otherwise, should be invited.

Elizabeth II's coronation took place in the presence of more than 8,000 guests from 129 countries.

For security reasons, a maximum of 2,000 people will be seated in Westminster Abbey this time around.

Next June, Charles III will be 74 years old, which will make him the oldest monarch at the time of his coronation in the history of British royalty.
