Officers shot a man who threatened and attacked patients at a Jewish hospital in Berlin with a knife, police in the German capital said Friday. The 45-year-old perpetrator was wounded in the leg, a police spokesman said.
Hospital staff alerted police Friday afternoon because a man was making noise in one of the institution’s wards. According to the police spokesman, the man attacked the emergency department staff with a knife when they arrived at the scene.
The background to the incident is not yet clear, the spokesman said. The events are believed to have taken place in a drug-abuse wing. Apart from the assailant, no one was injured.
BZ newspaper reported that the assailant was shot twice after refusing to comply and drop his weapon. The 40-year-old was given medical treatment and is in stable condition, a police spokesman said.
