United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres is set to visit Chile and Antarctica this week to witness the effects of the climate crisis.
While in Antarctica, Guterres intends to visit two glaciers and Copaitic Island, according to an announcement from the UN in New York. Chilean President Gabriel Boric will accompany him on this journey.
Guterres is expected to return to New York by Sunday. His observations from Antarctica will then be reported at the UN climate conference, COP28, in Dubai scheduled for the following week. He will urge appropriate action against the ongoing crisis.
