Retrospective dedicated to the artist Panamarenko in Antwerp

The Museum of Contemporary Art in Antwerp, M HKA, is exhibiting a major new retrospective of the Flemish painter, sculptor and inventor Panamarenko (Henri Van Herwegen). The exhibition "Panamarenko Universum," which opens Friday, will display more than 40 major works by the artist of the European avant-garde, born in 1940. Panamarenko, who is from Antwerp, has long since been an important figure to the M HKA. The museum has already acquired his former studio and archives. Nearly 10 years after the comprehensive retrospective held at the  Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Brussels, the M HKA wanted to take this time to honor the "quintessence of work" by Panamarenko by offering a structured journey of his work in a thematic and chronological fashion.

Besides other well known  Panamarenko pieces  such as the submarine "Pahama" ,"Donderwolk" and the "Prova Car", the exhibition  will also feature drawings, objects and models made by  the artist. The exhibition also seeks to highlight the artist’s scientific and artistic designs.

"Panamarenko Universum" will be avaliable to the public until February 22, 2015.
