Bart De Baere, director of Antwerp Contemporary Art Museum (M HKA), has been asked to curate the next edition of the Russian art festival Moscow Biennial 2016, according to a M HKA press release. Bart De Baere accepted the position in spite of the current political tensions with Russia. In his opinion, it is ‘’important to maintain a public space for contemporary art where the future can be envisaged, rather than let it disappear because of current power struggles.’’ M HKA is home to a substantial collection of ex-Soviet Union art.
The first Moscow Biennial was organised in 2005 and the next one will open its doors on September 17th, 2016.
