The Gent Jazz Festival has revealed that the Tony Bennett-Lady Gaga duo will perform on July 12th, 2015. Ticket sales for this special night will open on Friday at 10:00am. “Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga work remarkably well together”, said Bertrand Flamang, the organiser of the festival in Ghent. “This collaboration brings together the legendary jazz crooner Bennett, and Lady Gaga, the pop idol in the best sense of the term.”
Tony Bennett got in touch with Lady Gaga at a charity gala. He asked her if she would record a duet for his album ‘Duets II’. The duo then decided to embark on a wider collaboration project, which turned into an album of jazz classics, ‘Cheek to cheek’. While promoting their album, the duo gave a mini-concert on Grand-place in Brussels on September 22nd, 2014.
As well as the duo Bennett-Gaga, the festival will host the American pianist Bill Charlap and his trio. “Charlap has worked several times with Bennett”, recalled the organiser. “He continues to be a reference in mainstream American jazz.”
The Stephane Belmondo Trio will also perform that night, with ‘Love for Chet’, a tribute to trumpet player Chet Baker. Tickets will be selling online at www.gentjazz.com from Friday onwards.
