Brussels Book fair will have the theme Dangerous Liaisons

The definitive program of the 45th Brussels Book fair was unveiled on Thursday. This year, it will honour Quebec, and have the theme of “Dangerous Liaisons”, in reference to the book by Choderlos de Laclos. It will take place on the 26th of February to the 2nd of March, on the Tour & taxis site. Started in 1969, the Brussels fair is the oldest French-language book fair in the world, and the second biggest. “The Dangerous Liaisons theme is the chance for us to overlap all the disciplines”, said Ana Garcia, the General Commissioner. “We will associate economy and politics, politics and literature, poetry and science”… We have very diverse personalities on the program, such as journalist Christine Ockrent and Hubert Reeves, who will talk to Physics Nobel Prize winner François Englert. There will be celebrities such as Frédéric Beigbeder and Amélia Nothomb, who will be the star of the weekend”.

The task of creating the poster for the 2015 edition was given to Belgian comic book author Bernard Yslaire. He will be the standard-bearer for the part of the fair dedicated to the comic book world. The imaginarium will, for the third year running, showcase 25 comic book authors working, and the creative process will be accompanied by sounds and images. During an exhibition, illustrators from Quebec will illustrate a work by 9 Quebecois authors as a comic book.

Among those present will be the Haitian writer Dany Laferrière, who was elected to the Académie Française in 2013. The journalist Hector Tobar will talk about his book “The 33, the fury to survive”, which tells the story of the Chilean miners trapped in the San José mine for 69 days. “1915-2015, a century after the occupation” will talk about the humanity behind history.

The Education Minister for the Brussels-Wallonia Federation, Joelle Milquet, said the “Reading” plan for young people will be launched at the Book fair. Around fifty classes, nearly a thousand pupils, will get free entry and have entertainment based around reading. To introduce them to the world of science, some of them will have the opportunity to meet the Quebecois astrophysicist and ecologist Hubert Reeves.
