200 beetles in the streets of Brussels for the 7th Love Bugs Parade

Around 220 VW beetles and other beetles of all ages paraded on Sunday at Cinquantenaire, in Brussels, as part of the 7th Love Bugs parade. The event is for fans of this very characteristic vehicle. The drivers left at around 11am, and arrived at the Atomium at the start of the afternoon, before doing the same in reverse.

The event attracted lots of curious people, according to Patricia Raes, one of the organisers. “It’s difficult to give a precise figure, but there was an impressive number of people present, no doubt thanks to the good weather. Lots of the participants decorated their beetles in a fantasist way and with lots of colours”, she said.

Every year for the last seven, beetles fans have met in symbolic places for the Love Bugs parade. After the Palais Royal and Bozar in previous years, the destination this year was the Atomium. It was chosen in honour of the exhibition for Jacky Ickx and Eddy Merckx’s 70th birthdays.
