The Horecatel fair expects 40,000 professionals at the Wex from the 8th to the 11th of March

The 49th Horecatel fair is expecting 40,000 professionals that work in catering, collective kitchens and gastronomy to pass by. The fair will take place from Sunday the 8th of March to Wednesday 11th at the Wex in Marche-en-Famenne, the organisers said on Tuesday. Around 400 exhibitors will set up in the 23,500 square meters inside the six palais. This includes the Gastronomy palais, where the heads of the “Génération W” collective will be present. The event will provide the possibility to make many new professional contacts and discover upcoming flavours and trends, as well as new equipment. It will also offer new products, and culinary demonstrations (by Christophe Hardiquest from the Brussels restaurant “Bon-Bon” and Martin Volkaerts, Top Chef 2015 candidate and chef at “L’Amendier” in Genval). There will also be gastronomy competitions, and workshops on current happenings in the sector.

The Gastronomy palais is exclusively dedicated to quality Belgian products, with artisans and producers present. The “WexProCup” will take place there on the 9th of March. Four young candidates under 30 years old employed by a restaurant featured in the Gaunt&Millau Guide must present an entrée and main dish to the jury presided by Eric Martin (“Lemonnier” in Lavaux-Sainte-Anne) after two and a half hours. The “Passion Pâtisserie” competition will take place on the 10th of March.

The APAQ-W competition to promote Walloon products will take place on Sunday the 8th on March in Palais 1. The theme for the 17th competition, which is for hotelier schools, will be potatoes. At the same place, one of the SkillsBelgium “cuisine en salle” pre-finals will take place on the 11th of March. It will help to decide which young Belgian candidates will go to the Mondial des métiers in Sao Paulo in July.

A whole palais will be dedicated to the brewing sector, with three Belgian institutions present.

The entrance fee is 35 euros. Last year, 34,000 visitors came to the Horecatel fair, which lasted four days then too.
