Palais 2 of Brussels Expo will host an exhibition detailing the history of space navigation. It will be open from the 18th of July to the 25th of October. Around a hundred objects from the US Space and Rocket Center’s collection will be shown in Brussels for the first time, the organisers said on Tuesday. Among the objects to be displayed are a real moon rock, spacesuits and replicas of rockets used during NASA missions. Visitors will also be able to walk through a scale reconstruction of the Russian Mir space station. “Gateway to Space: The Exhibition” will teach the public about the changes in space exploration over the years. It starts with pioneers who constructed their rockets themselves, and has a section on the International Space Station. Of course, it also shows man’s first steps on the moon.
The scientific and historical documents, as well as the objects and models on display, come from the American US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville. This is where missiles that were sent to the moon were developed. The exhibition will also give visitors the chance to sit in a turning chair and a centrifuge, so they can feel what it’s like to be an astronaut in space. “Gateway to Space: The Exhibition” is a Fire-Starter project, which is a company based in Brussels. They were behind “Titanic: The Artifact” and “Expo Dino World” exhibitions. They also helped organise Cirque du Soleil and Monster Jam shows in Belgium.
