The national selection committee has selected Belgian director Jaco Van Dormael’s “The brand new testament” to represent Belgium in the “Best Foreign Language Film” category at the Oscars, revealed Wallonia Brussels Image on Tuesday. The Oscar ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on February 28th, 2016. Nominated films will be revealed on January 14th.

The jury is made up of 6 Belgian cinema professionals, both Flemish- and French-speaking. It applauds the creativity and “Belgian-ness” of Jaco Van Dormael’s movie, as well as its potential national and international audience, added the press release.

After “Toto the Hero” in 1991 and “The Eighth Day” in1996, this the third time that Jaco Van Dormael has been chosen to represent his country in Hollywood. “The brand new testament”, which stars Benoit Poelvoorde, Yolande Moreau, François Damiens and Catherine Deneuve, reached the top of the box office immediately after its release in Belgium on September 2nd.
