The City of Brussels will from now on offer Brussels beers at town hall receptions, announced Thursday Tourism Alderman Philippe Close and Mayor Yvan Mayeur (PS). When making the announcement, the two men congratulated Belgian brewers for having placed Belgian know-how in a top international position through recognition of the Belgian beer culture as part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. The decision was taken Thursday by the College of Mayors and Aldermen.
“This world-level recognition, which is truly well-deserved, once again demonstrates our brewers’ know-how. I am happy to see that appetite for our beers is not only part of our heritage, but is also present at the international level,” said Philippe Close.
In the opinion of Yvan Mayeur, “at Belgian receptions organized abroad, the idea is to make our local talent known, and to offer our guests at receptions at the municipality a window of our brewing heritage and that of Brussels brewers. Beyond wine, we want to showcase this Brussels talent we are so proud of.”
