“King of the Belgians” wins an award at the Rotterdam film festival

“King of the Belgians”, by Peter Brosens and Jessica Hope Woodworth, received the KNF Award during the International Rotterdam film festival closing ceremony on Friday. The award is given by Dutch cinematic journalists every year, and presented to the best Dutch-produced or Dutch co-produced film at the festival. This is the first time a Flanders co-produced film has won the KNF Award.

“King of the Belgians” was co-produced with Dutch company Topkapi Films. It is the fourth film by Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth (who was born in the US. She is married to Mr Brosens and resident in Belgium). It tells the story of the King of Belgium’s (played by Peter Van den Begin) journey to the Balkans to save his kingdom.

The Rotterdam award is the film’s first International title. It has already been presented at Hamburg, Busan, Antalya, Sao Paulo, Valladolid, Tallinn, Marrakech, Dubai, Les Arcs, Palm Springs and Goteborg.
