A 50-euro pass for a series of museums throughout Belgium will be available from September. Holders of the ‘museumPASSmusées’ pass will be able to visit the permanent collections of the participating museums as many times as they wish. Access to temporary expositions will be free or will require payment of a supplementary fee. Thus far, about 100 museums have indicated their intention to participate in the new system. All the museums should be accessible from September.
In the meantime, advance sales of 6,000 of the passes will start on Wednesday at 9 a.m. These exclusive passes will be decorated with an original work imagined by six artists: Sanam Khatibi, Jacques Charlier, Vincent Glowinski, Eva Mouton, Rinus Van de Velde and Koen Vanmechelen. Anyone purchasing the exclusive pass will be able to use it from June in about 40 institutions already registered, eight in Wallonia, 14 in Flanders and 18 in Brussels.
The income generated from the museumPASSmusées will go directly to the museums. For each visit by a pass holder, the museum concerned will be remunerated.
The project is being managed by a social cooperative founded by the French-speaking Community of Belgium section of the International Committee of Museums (ICOM), the Brussels Council of Museums and the Vlaams Museumoverleg and publiq non-profit associations.
